Private Addiction Clinics
First4Rehab works with a vast range of private addiction clinics, the majority being situated in the UK, Europe, South Africa and the Far East. However, trying to find a suitable rehab clinic on the internet is a daunting task, and without knowing exactly what each clinic has to offer, it is very easy to make a wrong and costly decision. This is where First4Rehab can help you. Before we can agree to work with a private addiction clinic, important criteria must be met in order for us to feel confident in recommending its services to you. Factors such as staff qualifications, location, success rates (some of our addiction clinics have rates of nearly 100%), the treatment programme, the clientele (this varies enormously from clinic to clinic) and standard of accommodation all determine whether or not we will work with them. Looking at a clinic’s website will not give you this information.

Rehab and detox facilities are available at the majority of our private addiction clinics; the most common being for the treatment of alcoholism, drug addiction and eating disorders. The treatment provided at our private addiction clinics is of an exceptionally high standard and success rates are extremely high; well in excess of the national average. Clientele at each clinic varies enormously, and again, this is something you will not find out from a website. Some rehab centres cater to the under 25’s, whilst others treat older clients. Most clinics treat a range of addictions whereas some will only treat alcoholism. Again we can advise you on the best possible option to meet your personal needs.

Treatment costs at private rehab centres vary considerably, and this is often due to the standard of accommodation and additional services on offer such as leisure facilities and complementary therapies. Prices start from under £500 per week, although some addiction clinics can admit clients under private medical insurance policies, depending on their level of cover. Most individuals complete a residential detox and rehab programme over a period of four to six weeks, although some will need a longer-term programme, dependent on their personal needs and circumstances. Be extremely cautious of anyone who tries to tell you that one week of treatment at over £4,000 is enough for you to get well... it is not! These clinics are just trying to get you through the door and take your money; once there, they will probably recommend you take out a loan to cover another four weeks of treatment. Do you want to spend over £20,000 on treatment when realistically you do not have that amount of money? There is no need when we can offer you six week programmes for under £4,000. Other referral agencies will try to sell you ‘packages’ of treatment which will involve you giving them your credit card details. Before you know it, they’ve taken thousands of pounds from your card without even telling you where you or your loved one will be receiving treatment! People are vulnerable and desperate during difficult times like these, and it is unscrupulous people like this who are taking advantage. NEVER give anyone your credit card details, and only pay the clinic direct; they are the ones who are treating you, not the referral agent. To safeguard yourself, always ensure the company you are speaking to is a member of The Referral Agents’ Federation www.referralagentsfed.org.uk. The Federation lays down protocols for the ethical referring of clients, and all members must abide by their codes of practice.

All private addiction clinics employ qualified and experienced drug, alcohol and eating disorder counsellors, most of whom are in recovery from an addiction themselves. Although medical cover varies from clinic to clinic, most provide the services of on-site nursing staff, along with visiting GP’s and Consultant Psychiatrists who will initially assess each client upon admission. An individual care plan will then be drawn up in order to help the individual gain a good understanding of their illness, and embark upon the treatment programme. The majority of private addiction clinics use the Twelve Step Minnesota Model (as founded by AA) for their primary treatment programme, although they will often incorporate elements of Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing.

The Twelve Step programme is recognised as the most effective method in the treatment of alcoholism and addiction, and aftercare is available free for life, anywhere in the world. However, behavioural disorders such as anorexia and bulimia are usually best treated with CBT and psychotherapy. Complementary therapies such as Equine Assisted therapy, Art and Drama therapy and recreational activities are often included, although this does vary from clinic to clinic.
